“Here Comes the Sun” – Why Now is the Perfect Time to Camp

Ireland’s unpredictable weather often keeps us guessing, but when the sun shines, it’s a golden opportunity to embrace the outdoors. With temperatures hitting the sweet spot of 18°C to 22°C, it’s warm enough to enjoy the sunshine without the sweltering heat. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a midweek adventure, the next 10 days are perfect for:

  • Exploring Ireland’s stunning campsites along the Wild Atlantic Way.
  • Hiking through the Wicklow Mountains and pitching your tent under the stars.
  • Enjoying a family camping trip by the lakes of Killarney or Lough Derg.

And don’t forget, O’Meara Camping is here to help you gear up for the adventure of a lifetime.

“Don’t Stop Me Now” – Essential Camping Gear for Sunny Days

When the sun is shining, you want to be prepared to make the most of it. Here’s how O’Meara Camping can help you stay comfortable, cool, and ready for anything:

  1. Tents That Keep You Cool

A good tent is the foundation of any camping trip. For sunny weather, look for tents with excellent ventilation to keep you cool during the day and comfortable at night. O’Meara Camping offers a range of air tents and pop-up tents that are easy to set up and perfect for summer camping.

Pro Tip: Choose a tent with a built-in sunshade or add a gazebo for extra protection from the sun during the day.

  1. Stay Hydrated with Cooler Bags and Ice Boxes

“Hot in the City” doesn’t have to mean warm drinks and melted snacks. Keep your drinks ice-cold and your food fresh with our range of ice boxes and cooler bags. Whether you’re camping for a weekend or a full week, our 5-7 day ice boxes are designed to keep your supplies chilled for the duration of your trip.

Check out our collection of high-end ice boxes here and make sure your drinks stay as cool as you are.

  1. Sun Protection is Key

“Blame It on the Sunshine” if you forget your sunscreen, but don’t let it ruin your trip. With the sun shining bright, it’s essential to protect your skin. Pack a high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to shield yourself from harmful UV rays.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you’re hiking or swimming.

  1. Lightweight Sleeping Bags for Warm Nights

With temperatures staying mild, you won’t need heavy-duty sleeping bags. Opt for lightweight, breathable sleeping bags that keep you comfortable without overheating. O’Meara Camping has a variety of options to suit your needs, whether you’re camping solo or with family.

  1. Camping Chairs for Relaxation

After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than kicking back in a comfortable camping chair. Our lightweight, foldable camping chairs are perfect for relaxing by the campfire or soaking up the evening sun.

“Cool for the Summer” – Tips for Staying Safe in the Sun

While the sunshine is a welcome treat, it’s important to stay safe and comfortable during your camping trip. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water and refillable bottles. Dehydration can sneak up on you, especially when you’re active in the sun.
  • Use Sun Protection: Apply sunscreen regularly, wear a hat, and seek shade during the hottest part of the day.
  • Keep Food Fresh: Use an ice box or cooler bag to store perishable items and avoid food spoilage.
  • Dress for the Weather: Lightweight, breathable clothing is ideal for sunny days. Don’t forget a light jacket for cooler evenings.

“Take Me Home, Country Roads” – Top Camping Spots for Sunny Days

If you’re wondering where to pitch your tent, here are some of the best camping spots in Ireland to enjoy the sunshine:

  • Achill Island, Co. Mayo: With its stunning beaches and rugged landscapes, Achill Island is a camper’s dream.
  • Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry: Perfect for families, this park offers scenic lakes, hiking trails, and plenty of wildlife.

Festival Essentials!

🎸 Essentials for Camping at a Music Festival in Ireland: A Guide by O’Meara Camping. 🎸

Hey Festival Fans!

At O’Meara Camping., we know that the magic of a music festival in Ireland isn’t just in the tunes but in the whole experience! From the lush green fields to the spirited crowds, every festival is a unique adventure. But let’s be honest: a bit of rain, some chilly nights, or the occasional mud bath can be part of the charm. That’s why we’re here to help you pack smart and ensure your festival camping experience is comfortable and memorable. Here’s your ultimate guide to festival camping essentials!

Most asked for product for the camping festivals:

  • Tent
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Ice Box
  • Light
  • Sleeping Mat
  • Chair
  • Trolley

🏕️ 1. The Perfect Tent 🏕️

  1. Size Matters: Whether you’re solo or with friends, pick a tent that gives you a little extra room. A 2-person tent is cozy for one, and a 4-person tent gives space for two plus gear.
  2. Weather Resistance: Choose a tent with good waterproofing (look for a hydrostatic head of 3000mm or higher) and sturdy poles to withstand wind and rain.
  3. Easy Setup: Pop-up tents or those with simple pole systems might be simply and easy to put up but they are not a “Real Tent” and when put to the test will leak and cause you and all your belongings to get wet. Look for a tent which has 2 skins to the material (As in a waterproof exterior known as the Flysheet and the interior layer which is your breathable cotton bedroom) and has a fully sealed in and preferably raised floor so when if the mud and puddles rise you will still be dry!

🔥 2. Warm Sleeping Gear 🔥

  1. Sleeping Bag: Opt for a sleeping bag rated for 3 seasons. Nights can get chilly, so ensure it’s warm enough for temperatures down to at least 5°C (41°F). You will thank us for this tip. Sleeping bags are designed to contain your body heat. If the insulation in the sleeping bag is light or cheap it will not keep you warm. There is nothing worse then being cold all night.
  2. Self Inflating Mat or Air Mattress: Comfort and insulation from the ground are key. A self-inflating mat is better but bulkier and generally more expensive. But because of the insulation in these types of mats you wont feel the cold from the ground even it they are not as comfortable as airbeds. Airbeds are super compact and light but because the air in the airbed sits directly on the ground what ever the ground temperature is this cold will cause the air in the airbed to be the same temperature so regardless of how good your duvet etc is you will be sleeping on cold… Think about this when packing for your next concert.
  3. Pillow: A compact camping pillow or a pillowcase you can stuff with clothes adds that extra bit of comfort.

🌧️ 3. Rain Gear 🌧️

  1. Waterproof Jacket: Invest in a breathable, waterproof jacket with a hood. You’ll thank us when the Irish skies open up. But if again you need things to be compact then pack the old reliable poncho.
  2. Rain Pants: Lightweight and packable rain pants can be a lifesaver for staying dry in a downpour.
  3. Waterproof Boots: Sturdy, waterproof boots or wellies are a must for navigating muddy fields.

🍲 4. Food and Cooking Essentials 🍲

  1. A good cooler – essential for keeping all of your drinks and food cold fresh for the duration of the festival. Such a range to choose from but ideally buy one on wheels then you wont have to carry all that weight.
  2. Water Bottle: Stay hydrated! Bring a refillable water bottle to avoid buying plastic bottles.
  3. Non-Perishable Foods: Bring along some instant noodles, oatmeal packets, canned beans, or dehydrated meals. Snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruit are great too.

💡 5. Lighting and Power 💡

  1. Headlamp or Lantern: Essential for navigating your campsite after dark. Headlamps are handy for hands-free use.
  2. Power Bank: Keep your devices charged with a high-capacity power bank. Look for one that can charge your phone multiple times.
  3. Spare Batteries: Always have extra batteries for your headlamp and other gadgets.

🎒 6. Essential Accessories 🎒

Camping Chair: Lightweight, foldable camping chairs are great for relaxing back at your campsite. Deserves it’s own section in this blog!

👕 7. Clothing 👕

  1. Layers: Pack moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid-layers, and a waterproof outer layer. Layers allow you to adapt to changing weather.
  2. Extra Socks and Underwear: Dry feet are happy feet. Pack more socks than you think you’ll need.
  3. Hat and Sunglasses: A hat for sun protection and warmth, and sunglasses for those rare but glorious sunny moments.(Don’t forget the sun cream!)

Hygiene and Health

  1. Wet Wipes and Hand Sanitizer: Essential for staying fresh when showers are scarce. Baby wipes, dry shampoo etc.
  2. Sunscreen and Bug Spray: Protect yourself from sunburn and bites.
  3. First Aid Kit: A small kit with band-aids, painkillers, antiseptic wipes, and blister pads is always wise.

🏷️ 9. Festival Essentials 🏷️

  1. Festival Wristband and Tickets: Don’t leave home without these!
  2. Map and Schedule: Keep track of stages and set times with a printed or downloaded map and schedule.
  3. Personal ID and Money: Bring a small amount of cash and a card. Keep these in a secure place.

🌍 10. Sustainability Tips 🌍

  1. Reusable Cups and Cutlery: Help reduce waste by bringing your own.
  2. Trash Bags: Leave no trace – pack out what you pack in.
  3. Eco-Friendly Toiletries: Biodegradable soap and a solar shower bag are great for the environment.

Camping Advice

Don't give up before you at least try!

Many new campers today remember what camping was like as a child and feel that the experience might not be an enjoyable one. But like everything camping has evolved into a massively family friendly and hugely entertaining experience both giving the parents some head space but allowing the children have outdoor fun with other children and leaving the screen time at home.

At OMeara Camping we specialize in Family camping even though we also cater for Scouts and Hiking tents most of our equipment has been specially selected for Family Camping & Caravanning.

Choose a tent that is the correct size for your family. Squeezing in only suits for a overnight or 2.

This is a holiday and should be enjoyable to dont always select budget get some comforts you wouldnt go on a family holiday in a hostel so camping should be no different.

What ever you purchase you own not like a night in a hotel once the money is spent its gone.

My Top Tips:

Be Warm – Therefore a good sleeping bag or blankets

Sleeping on something comfortable. Airbeds are ok but Camp Mats or bed are better. Those in caravan and motorhomes already have those comforts.

Good chair – Once you have kids that are able to go play you tend to sit alot camping better to be in something comfortable.

Camp sites probably wont like me saying this but – A Heater in ireland we are not blessed with the best weather so trust me going into a cold tent and a cold sleeping bag isnt the best. Having a little heat helps alot.

Good Ice box – Nothing worse then drinking room temperature drinks or having to check is the milk gone off.

All of these items will last you years when you get the right stuff and can be used at home for any sleep overs and parties at home so invest and have yourself an enjoyable memorable camping experience.
