If you are new to Camping, the choice of tent can be bewildering. Family Camping is best catered for by a large family dome tent or the tried and tested family frame tent. The family frame tent is made from cotton, a naturally breathing material that reduces condensation. Large Frame tents are very robust, spacious and comfortable. At the bottom of this page are some photographs that clearly show how unsuitable many of the tents been sold for family camping really are. The photographs are there to show you what can happen on a windy day when there was no rain. Really the wind was not all that bad! The tents in various stages of falling down are only suitable for fine weather or really sheltered camping. Be aware! Many tents are now been offered for sale on the Internet or through Supermarkets and in truth what is happening is the price, followed by the quality is on an inexorable downward slope. The tents on this page represent good value for money. All the tents have been erected by ourselves and examined and are suitable for camping in Ireland and abroad. For budget tents go to one of our other sections. Finally: Traditional Family frame tents are going out of fashion, cotton is expensive and manufacturers can make dome tents look different and save money using synthetic materials. As most tents come from the Far East and by container, there is no prize for understanding why the Chinese want to put, three times as many tents in a container. Tents that last about 1/3 of the lifespan of a frame tent. Everyone in the trade that I have asked thinks Frame tents are better than dome tents and last longer. Buy yourself a real tent while you can as O'Meara's bought all the frame tents left in stock that they could find at the beginning of this season. Note some frame tents are quite bulky.

The wind has made the dome poles implode and collapse. The guy ropes do not make up for inherent lack of strength, Good / better pegs do help.
